The owner of this Huntington Avenue home had completely replaced their porch about 10 years ago. Unfortunately, the stair rails and posts were not protected by a porch roof and, as a result, combined with its north-side location, excessive rotting occurred, requiring partial replacement.

This is why we now strongly recommend to our customers that pine not be used. We recommend mahogany or oak, even if it is painted. These hardwoods are much stronger and do not add much to the cost as one would think.
