The Frederiksen's plans to restore a 1918 home in Buffalo, New York together as a team were suddenly changed when Debbie discovered she was pregnant on the very same day they closed on the house. Charles was left to do much of the work himself; trimming overgrown hedges and dead trees, cleaning and repairing broken siding and rotten wood, and staining the entire exterior dark red. Inside, he replastered walls and ceilings and stripped and refinished staircase treads and pocket doors. Three years later, the home that had once been labeled "The Haunted House" by neighborhood children had been brought back to life.
